PostSubject: A warning suggestion   A warning suggestion Icon_minitimeTue Jun 22, 2010 7:34 am

I thought it would be a good idea to warn players about what may happen when they break the rules. To do so I thought about having a small jail at home with 3 guys inside. Then I have 2 suggestions. You can either talk to the prisoners yourself and find out why they're there, or ask a jailer outside the jail why they're inside.

A warning suggestion 000310
This is the option with the guard.

A warning suggestion 000510
This is the option where you talk with the prisoners themselves.

I also took my time to write down conversations between you and prisoners/jailer.

Suggestion 1:

First prisoner:
Player: Hello.
Roger: Hi there.
Player: Who are you?
Roger: My name is Roger.
Player: Why have you been put in that jail?
Roger: I used to be an good player, but it wasn't enough for me.
So i decided to trick a player into buying an amulet of fury for a lot more
than it's worth.
Player: I guess that makes you a scammer then.
Roger: It does. I regret that I ever thought about doing such a thing.
So take my piece of advice. Try to sell items for resonable prices and if
you're not sure how much the item is worth, ask someone or check the forums
for price lists. And do not make the same mistake I did.
Player: Thanks for warning me. I'll be thinking twice when I'll be trading
in the future

Second prisoner:
Player: Hello.
Dave: Hi there.
Player: Who are you?
Dave: My name is Dave.
Player: Why have you been put in that jail?
Dave: I used to to be a good player, but as I played I started playing
jokes with people hoping I would be accepted. When someone told me that my
jokes were only harassing the players I lost my temper and that poor guy
had to listen to my horrible language.
Player: I guess that makes you a flamer then.
Dave: You bet it does. I just regret saying all those bad things to that
guy. I fear that he might still be thinking about it. Please take my advice.
The players out there are people just like you and me, so think before
talking to people. What you say could hurt someone. Just remember that
words are more powerful than any sword. Choose your words wisely.
Player: thanks for the advice. I will use a proper language when talking
to people and definitely think before I speak.

Third prisoner:
Player: Hello
X Logger X: Hi there.
Player: Who are you?
X Logger X: I am X Logger X.
Player: Why have you been put in that jail?
X Logger X: Did you know there is a way to make duplications of an item?
Say you got an item once and would like to have way more of them. Imagine
you just got an abyssal whip from those demons and you feel you'll never
ever get another one. I was in that situation and tried to duplicate it.
It actually worked, but I got a lot more than I thought, so I thought I
might as well sell them. But then I got detected.
Player: I guess that makes you a duper then.
X Logger X: Indeed it does. I regret I ever tried to make that work.
If I only were a little more patient I would have gotten the whips I wanted
in a fair way. If they didn't stop me I would have ruined the economy.
Let me give this piece of advice. Duping is both illegal and unfair.
Imagine you've been in Godwars for a long time and finally get what you're
looking for. The feeling you get when you've achieved something is way
better than getting as many of that item as you'd like by duping.
Thanks for letting me know this. I guess it would feel better to have
earned the items I get. And I definitely won't even consider trying to
duplicate anything.

Suggestion 2:

Player: Hi there.
Jailer: Good day to you.
Player: Who are those guys in the cages?
Jailer: They are criminals, offenders of the rules and terms of BBS-PK.
Player: Could you tell me what they've done?
Jailer: Certainly. Who would you like to know about?
Player:

Choice 1: The guy to the left.
Choice 2: The guy in the middle.
Choice 3: The guy to the right.

Jailer:
Answer to choice 1: He's called Roger. We caught him trying to sell an
amulet of fury for 1b. What he didn't tell was that it can be crafted by
anyone who gets crafting level 85. This was easily detected and luckily
we stopped the trade before something went wrong. I just hope he learned
his lesson and won't do that again. Repetitive violations may lead to a
ban. My warning to you is to think twice before trading with anyone. And
if you don't know the prices for some items you should ask a trustworthy
player or browse the forums for a price list.
Player: Thanks for warning me.
Jailer: No problem. It's my duty to make sure that the people stick to the
rules. If you want to read the rules and terms of BBS-PK, Richard has added
the rules to the forum.

Answer to chioce 2: He's called Dave. We caught him saying a lot of bad
things to a player. We muted him right away. This other player however told
he was thinking about leaving the server because of that, but luckily
he changed his mind. I only hope he won't have to go through that again.
Swearing at others must be taken seriously. Also harassing others in any
way must not be torerated at all. Repetitive flaming/harassing might lead
to a ban. My warning is to think about what you say to people. They do act
and think differently, so use a proper language so you won't offend anyone.
Just remember, what you don't wish others to say to you, you shouldn't be
saying to them.
Player: Thanks for warning me.
Jailer: No problem. It's my duty to make sure that the people stick to the
rules. If you want to read the rules and terms of BBS-PK, Richard has added
the rules to the forum.

Answer to choice 3: He's called X Logger X. We cautght him with a huge
amount of abyssal whips. He told us he'd been a lot in the slayer tower,
but we knew that it takes more than just "a lot of time" to achieve hundreds
of whips. He did jail him right away and at least 10 players told us
that they'd bought whips from him. Duplicating items is illegal and it
ruins the economy. Imagine how it would be like if everyone had the
most expensive items. It wouldn't be any fun at all. And getting them
in a fair way gives the feeling of having achieved something. My warning is
to stay as far as possible away from duping. And if you fear you might get
a duped item when trading, you could get them yourself.
Jailer: No problem. It's my duty to make sure that the people stick to the
rules. If you want to read the rules and terms of BBS-PK, Richard has added
the rules to the forum.

Since there will be new players joining the server it is important to introduce them to the forums and also the rules. The newer players should be aware of what may happen to them and what may to them if they're doing the crimes.
Any thoughts?

Very nice idea ! But i think prisoner should be more harsh... like "Anyway..." instead of "I regret"

Yeah, actually thats an amazing idea. Well thought through. If it was used I'd rather incorperate ArchAngel's idea. I think he should be more aggresive.

The idea was to make people devolop a distance to rule breaking. Actually I think it's a good idea to make the prisoners rough. And maybe the jailer could be a little arrogant. Like he's mocking the prisoners. That would perhaps give rule breaking a little worse image. The rough prisoners would do so as well. Thanks for the reply. I never thought about that. Razz
But it's great to hear other ideas.

Although a very good idea, I doubt any players would have the attention span/time to read through all of that dialogue.

lol, the idea is great i like this but the amount of dialogue would be just insanely boring for me 2 add and as rich said obv players wont wana read it all, altho i like the idea of questions i do not like the idea of giving them a prize for correct answers.. we have lots of ways for players to make money on the server already and adding another way is not what i want atm Razz this is a great idea just needs a bit more thought put into and to try and advance it a little bit Smile

When I gave the whole idea a thought I found out that the jailer would have been better. So I made a little shorter conversation. Hopefully this will be short enough for people who wants to read it.

Player: Hi there.
Jailer: What can I help you with?
Player: Who are those guys?
Jailer: These guys were like you, but they decided to ignore the rules.
Player: What did they do?
Jailer: The one to the left is a terrible bug abuser. The one in the middle
kept on flaming poor players. The one to the right is a miserable duper.
Player: Looks like they got what they deserved eh?
Jailer: Oh yes indeed. Now my job is to warn players like you to
think before acting so we won't have to do this to you as well.
Or maybe throw you into the bottomless pit of ban.
Player: Thanks for warning me.
Jailer: No problem. Make sure you read the rules of BBS-PK. Richard added
them to the forum and they're easy to find.

Edit: Replaced scammer with bug abuser.

Perhaps not a rule, but I'd prefer a server without them as they take advantage of new players limited knowledge and use that to earn more than should have.

I do support beth's idea of an incentive for reading the regulations...

But caremaster, I "scam" sometimes too.

And I'm with Richard on his vote too, its pretty motivating.

Hmmm... Guess bug abusing sounds more of a crime than scamming then... I'll add that right away. Razz
And little something would be just the thing people could need to read my shorter dialogue... It shouldn't be too much but a little something that may help people out a bit... Perhaps an untradeable exp lamp? And it's constructed as a quest so you can only do it once... Any thoughts?

I decided not to come up with the amount of exp people should get from the lamp just yet since it would be great to hear what you guys suggest. Wink

Edit: Another reward may be an utradeable cape or amulet or something with a small bonus to some skill... Since most people would skip the dialogue and barely read it due to the urge to get the prize. That's why I think a small reward showing that you've done the quiz should be the reward. It will be a little something but perhaps people would not urge to get it and perhaps take time to read a little.
